Most people leave their cars at home when they head to Union Square because affordable parking can be cumbersome to find. We created this guide and parking map to show drivers where all of the best Union Square parking locations are. Whether you are looking for an open meter, a cheap parking lot, or convenient valet parking, these tips will help you find the best place to park.

Union Square Parking Garages & Lots:

There are over 20 public parking garages and lots scattered all around Union Square to make parking and visiting Union Square easier and more accessible.  Find all the parking lots and their rates with the map above.  The rates of these lots can vary depending on the hour or day you are visiting.  Don’t get tricked into paying a high hourly rate at one lot when there cheaper lot around the corner. We sorted through all of the different parking in the area and compiled this list of the best Union Square parking lots for all occasions.

Cheapest Daytime Parking Garage: The 560 Geary St underground parking garage is located only 3 blocks away from Union Square. It’s the best place to park if you are visiting during the day but remember to exit the garage before 7pm because the rates will go up. If you park there between the hours of 6am & 7pm you will only pay $10 which is much cheaper than other locations in the area.

Closest Parking Garage: The Union Square Parking Garage is located directly below Union Square Park. If you don’t mind spending more money and just want to park as close as possible then this is the place for you. You can even see real-time occupancy of this location on our parking map above in case it gets full. You will spend about $14 if you park here for 4 hours during the day.

Cheapest Night-Time Parking Garage: If you plan on checking out a movie at the Century San Francisco Centre 9 theater then we recommend parking at the Mason O’Farrell Parking Garage which is a few blocks north. They are open 24 hours and only charge a $15 flat rate during the evenings. They accept credit cards too which is a huge plus!

Cheapest Overnight Parking Garage: If you are headed to Union Square for a night out on the town to get some drinks at one of the many bars in the area you should probably parking your car overnight. We suggest the Mason O’Farrell Parking Garage. They are open 24 hours and charge a $22 flat rate for overnight parking. They accept credit cards too which is a huge plus!

Best Valet Parking Garage: If you don’t want to bother with looking for a parking spot and don’t mind paying a little extra for valet, the best place for valet parking is at the Hilton Hotel.  Their valet service is open 24 hours and they accept all major credit cards.

Street Parking:

Street parking around Union Square is one of the most coveted treasures that every driver aims for.  Around Union Square, most of the street parking will be paid (meter) parking.  If you do find a spot on the street make sure to curb your wheels if your are parked on a street with an incline!  The SF parking enforcement takes this law very seriously, and if your wheels are not curbed properly you will be looking at a heavy fine on your windshield when you get back to your car!

Paid (Meter) Parking: Most meters are active Monday-Saturday from 9am-6pm, so parking is free after 6pm and on Sundays, but be sure to check the signs before leaving your car!  Many streets have street cleaning 3 times a week and you will get a ticket if you’re parked on the street during those times.

  • Rates: average $2-$3 per hour.  Rates can vary depending on location and hour.
  • Time Limit:  4 hours.  You CANNOT feed the meter and leave your car parked for more than 4 hours or you WILL get a ticket!
  • Active Hours:  Monday-Saturday, 9am-6pm.  Active hour and no-parking hours can vary by location and hour so double-check the signs on your meter before leaving your car.
  • Best Places to Look:  Montgomery and Market Streets.

 

Public Transportation:

Union Square is a public transit hub and easily accessed by Cable Car, Muni Metro, CalTrain, and Taxi.  You can also get there on the BART, just get off at the Powell St Station which is a few blocks away.
